Fix Your Credit Report – Let Today’s Technology Give You the Edge

Article by Richard BraddonParsons

Today more people than ever are checking what’s in their credit report making now the time to fix your credit report. The current worldwide recession has made a whole new generation reliant on credit, and in some cases this is just to make ends meet. If you haven’t checked your credit report lately, it’s time you did. If you what you find shocks you, don’t panic, there are lots of ways you can fix your credit report enabling you to get the credit you need and not be locked into having to pay higher fees and interest rates than you should qualify for.

Some people believe that waiting it out is the only way to fix their credit report, but that isn’t so. The good news is that millions of incorrect items have been completely and legally removed from credit reports since 1971, and there’s no reason why you can’t participate too.

You can follow the instructions of the credit bureaus on how to restore your credit, but not only is this is a slow and inefficient process, it’s a process designed to meet legal compliance not a process designed with your best interests at heart. The advantage is that it doesn’t cost anything. The disadvantage is you get what you paid for.

Credit repair services claim to do all the work for you, but they have incentives for not being efficient. Many of them charge by the month, so it pays for them to drag things out, sometimes over a year or more. Additionally, you will still have to fill out a lot of the paperwork yourself and you’ll have to forward all your credit reports to them, so you don’t get that much of a break on the work it takes to dispute items on your credit report. Credit repair services say they’ll fix your credit report, but rest assured you’ll be paying for it.

You could decide to fix your credit report by just waiting it out? For one thing, you’ll wait for a long time. Some items take seven years to come off your report, and some take 10 years. Some things will stay on your credit report forever unless they are disputed and legitimately removed. You can do much better for yourself with the help of a self-directed approach using e.g. easy to understand software that can help show you what to dispute and how to dispute it. With this approach, you’ll also spend far less than you would through a credit repair agency, and probably get better results.

You can use self-directed credit repair software to fix your credit report without the hassles of the DIY methods or the expense of repair agencies. An example is the challenge of having to write complicated letters to dispute items on your credit report versus using software with a point and click interface that writes the letters for you. Credit bureaus know when they see requests for investigations from credit repair agencies because of their generic, form based appearance. But you can use software to customize your letters asking for investigations, drastically increasing your chances of successfully disputing items. You can also use this type of software to track disputes with the credit bureaus so that none of your requests fall through the cracks.

Don’t deny yourself or your family what’s rightfully yours by having inaccuracies on your credit reports, you need to check and fix your credit report. But you don’t have to settle for the ineffective processes the credit bureaus suggest, nor do you have to pay big dollars to a credit repair agency and you don’t have to wait seven or 10 years to get results. Using software will help you quickly and professionally dispute items on your credit report and can shave years off the process of getting things put right.
